Morning, sky blue and clear, wind crisp and cool, the first autumnal weather after a long muggy summer. We pick up Tadashi and John outside Grand Central Station, then leave New York City over the George Washington Bridge to drive up the Palisades Interstate Parkway, heading for the Catskills.

We stop at a scenic overlook with a small restaurant/snack bar. After eating, we walk to the lookout over the Hudson. Downriver on the opposite bank the city thrusts spires into the morning sky. Here, poison ivy, rocks, a few candy wrappers.
